Olivia Wilde Vegan 4 Years Now

Olivia Wilde has been a vegetarian since she was 12. She now credits Alicia Silverstone with helping her to become a vegan. Four years ago, when she was filming a movie called Butter, she met Alicia Silverstone. Olivia Wilde found herself filming a movie without much vegetarian support from the local region. Moreover, she was in a part of the country (Louisiana) where they question your patriotism if you don’t eat bacon. But, Silverstone came to the rescue and cooked Olivia Wilde recipes from her vegan book, The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great.

Alicia Silverstone helped Olivia Wilde become a vegan. It was hard, given that most are accustomed to eating meat, dairy, and fish in Northern Louisiana. The first thing she tried was Alicia’s vegan rice krispie treats. From there, they shared many meals together. Becoming a vegan is a difficult endeavor when you are surrounded by carnivores. But, it is much easier to adopt a vegan diet with a friend. Plus, Wilde felt a lot better health-wise for doing it. Regarding the experience of becoming a vegan, Olivia Wilde says:

Being vegan is not always easy and accessible, but it’s a way of life and makes me as a person feel really good and physically look better. My skin was better, my energy was better.

In 2010, Wilde was voted as “Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity.” PETA gave her the award. Bob Harper, celebrity trainer from the Biggest Loser was the male champion. Olivia Wilde’s House co-star, Lisa Edelstein, was the female runner up. Wilde was outspoken not only for speaking against cruelty to animals, but for her vegan message:

Beyond my desire to boycott the torture factories, I am also way happier when I eat a plant-based diet, and I feel about a thousand times more energetic.

Filming Cowboys and Aliens, Olivia Wilde was the only vegan member of the enormous cast and crew. Luckily, her movie’s producers offered to bring along a chef to the New Mexico setting where she’d be spending 80 days filming. She shares her favorite recipe, Vegan Crab Cakes on her blog.

Wilde’s blog is also dedicated to cruelty-free beauty products, vegan interests, and other special things on Olivia Wilde’s mind.
